Analysis of the Influence of Open Unemployment Rate, Economic Growth, and Education Level on Poverty in the Special Region of Yogyakarta

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effects of the Open Unemployment Rate, economic growth, and education level on poverty in the Special Region of Yogyakarta during the 2010–2024 period. The study employed a quantitative approach using time-series multiple linear regression analysis estimated with EV views 12. The data were obtained from official publications of the Central Statistics Agency (Badan Pusat Statistik [BPS]) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The results showed that, simultaneously, the three independent variables had a significant effect on poverty. Partially, the Open Unemployment Rate had a positive and significant effect on poverty, indicating that an increase in unemployment was associated with an increase in the number of people living in poverty. Education level also had a significant effect on poverty, with higher average years of schooling significantly associated with lower poverty levels. However, economic growth did not have a significant effect on poverty, suggesting that economic growth in the Special Region of Yogyakarta had not yet been fully inclusive and had not sufficiently benefited all segments of society. Based on these findings, local governments are advised to prioritize education-oriented policies and the creation of high-quality employment opportunities while ensuring that the benefits of economic growth are distributed more equitably, particularly among vulnerable and low-income groups.
